Saving Money on Paper Goods

2 toddler boys = 1 BIG mess.
I vacuum constantly. I don’t even know where the crumbs come from. Sometimes I think they have a hidden stash and wait until I walk out of the room to throw them everywhere.
We go through wipes, diapers and paper towels like crazy. Just my personal preference but I will not use reusable diapers. I’m just not on board and my husband would never change a diaper again if he had to wash the poop off after.
I know there are a lot of home made baby wipes out there but I haven’t jumped on that band wagon yet because it doesn’t seem like a lot of savings. I usually look for some good deals on wipes. Also as I understand you should use tea tree oil to prevent mold on the home made wipes and I honestly can not take the smell. It drives me crazy.
Paper towels, however, I’m on board. I freaking love paper towels but I think I use them a little too freely. Enter the reusable paper towel!

There are TONS of tutorials on this particular topic but I didn’t use one. I just used a sheet of paper towel as my pattern and went to town. I used an old receiving blanket and baby towel for the two sides of my “paper towel”. These are for messes so I’m really not concerned with what they look like. I like using what I have as well, I mean this is about saving money. I’m not ditching my beloved paper towels just yet but I’m hoping this will cut back.
Please forgive my horrible pictures and ugly curtain.

Are you on board with reusable/cloth paper towels and napkins?

Leg Day

Leg Day!
I love leg day. It’s really the only lifting I love to do. Anything upper body really doesn’t do it for me like a good, hard, burn of the leg day. You know the workout that is so hard that flight of stairs feels like the Harvard steps and the toilet seems a lot shorter than it was yesterday.
Feel that burn.
I did not do right by my legs today. It was a crazy morning and I’m on day 4 of the never ending headache. I broke the cardinal rule of muscle love…I didn’t have any protein after my workout. I actually didn’t eat much at all today. I am terrified of the soreness I’m going to feel tomorrow considering how my legs are burning right now.
Hopefully a run tomorrow will help all that lactic acid get moving πŸ™‚
I’m feeling skinny and feeling like I look better but the numbers aren’t changing. The truth is the feeling is more important than the numbers.
Keep on truckin’ you all.

So much love and light in the positives

β€œWhile wandering a deserted beach at dawn, stagnant in my work, I saw a man in the distance bending and throwing as he walked the endless stretch toward me. As he came near, I could see that he was throwing starfish, abandoned on the sand by the tide, back into the sea. When he was close enough I asked him why he was working so hard at this strange task. He said that the sun would dry the starfish and they would die. I said to him that I thought he was foolish. there were thousands of starfish on miles and miles of beach. One man alone could never make a difference. He smiled as he picked up the next starfish. Hurling it far into the sea he said, β€œIt makes a difference for this one.” I abandoned my writing and spent the morning throwing starfish.”

In a time of extreme stress this made me instantly feel lighter. I seem to have to be everyone’s rock sometimes. A task I really take pride in. Knowing that you are a strong point for someone else is humbling. I feel that breaking down is not in the equation being not just any wife but a wife to my particular husband. He’s tough and he needs me to follow suit. I’m not a crier and I really try not to complain, at least not to him. So today and everyday I try to throw starfish. If I need a moment to myself to get it together I just go get a little ice cream πŸ™‚

Go throw some starfish!
Live in the present!
Share your own love and light with everyone you see because you might be the “rock” they need.

Big Boys

Finally! The day has come to get rid of the enormous but until now necessary eyesore…the highchair.
J1 needs to start learning to use a regular chair at the table. He’s 2 1/2 and is climbing like crazy. He also enjoys redecorating the dining room. Sooooooo I decided to call him up to the big leagues. Which in turn moved J2 into the booster seat and now everyone is at the table together. It makes dinner so enjoyable to be able to focus on everyone.
Now J1 is wild, crazy and all boy so he needs a little help staying in one spot. Our chairs have no arms.

As you can see its an easy escape route for J1. So I went on a mission to our local Goodwill J1 in tow to find a chair with arms. I totally hit the jackpot with this beauty for $8.

I thought it needed a little color. I mean so much character and such a half assed stain job is just a tragedy. So I called in some advice from my friend who’s husband just recently was stationed in Australia. The poor thing had to travel to Australia with a toddler. Yikes! Anyways she has been soon some amazing furniture transformations so she gave me some paint advice.
Off to Wally World to find some spray paint. She suggested a primer than any spray paint I wanted to use on top. I looked and looked and found the Krylon dual spray paint that is a primer and paint in one. $5? SOLD.
Now I have never spray painted anything in my life. I asked my husband for some tips and went in the backyard and sprayed that bad boy. I came back in and told him I used the whole can and he looked at me like I was crazy. So I might need some practice before I start revamping our furniture but I think it came out pretty fantastic for my first attempt. Oh and the color…LOVE!
